In fact, analytics firm Localytics says that demand for the popular device hasn’t slowed down at all recently despite the twin blows of Samsung losing a $1 billion patent verdict and the release of the iPhone 5. Localytics, which tracks what kinds of smartphones access thousands of mobile apps using its mobile analytics platform, says it has seen a 9% average increase of new Galaxy S III devices since the first week of August. What’s more, the number of new Galaxy S IIIs grew 16% during the week of the Apple patent trial verdict and 15% during the week that Apple announced the iPhone 5. Ironcially, Localytics actually thinks Apple might have done Samsung a favor by suing them since “the deluge of post-litigation press coverage both drove general attention to Samsung and suggested that Samsung devices were similar enough to iPhones to be an option for many consumers.” If this analysis is correct, then Samsung might want to lose $1 billion patent verdicts more often.
