I think it is mostly about education, although there does seem to be a genetic pre dispostion to conservative thought. In science they have a term: "knowledge directed perception". It means one cannot see (in the minds eye) what they do not understand. When I go into areas and talk to people with very little eduction I can easily see what they don't understand. I think (uneducted) humans pretty much all live in a fantasy reality of their own creation. As they become educated and learn both facts and reason, it displaces the myths and also teaches logic. Imagine if Bush had used that 5 trillion he pissed away for educationa and health care. We Would be the envy of the world right now. I believe in free education from pre school 2.5 years (with hot breakfast) through a PHD. If we did that our society would grow strong, healthy and happy.
