Since October 1967 until mid 1971, Obama lived in Indonesia and attended the local school. On the student card, Obama's religion was listed as Moslem. You have to understand why his stepfather did that for him. There was a big turmoil after Sept 30, 1965 when a reported coup was made by the communist party. That rebellion was crushed by the government, and a new President took over. Since then, anyone who did not belong to any religion was branded communist and would not be able to go to school, get a job, and would be hunted as communist. Therefore, any student has to list the religion to which he/she belongs. Lolo Soetoro was not Catholic nor Christian, he was just a secular Moslem. Since belonging to religious group was mandatory to study, Obama's religion was penciled in as Moslem.
