Unlikely that an analyst would make a buy recommendation so close to
an earnings report date. The analyst would have his or her credibility called into question if the earnings were poor. Your assumption of a good report is probably correct. I maintain a core position in ADI and trade a couple hundred shares between 30 and 35. This is a much tougher game with the Tech stocks where they are today.
Its getting harder and harder to tell a dip from a dive in the price of some of these stocks. Another senario is that ADI reports good earnings and the stock tanks anyway. (eg. TXN)
