Compared to what? CORBA? If you want to throw in DCOM and non-Java resources then yes; otherwise the comparison is with plain old Java classes and the Remote Method Invocation.Yes, you are tied to Windows. And when you write to Java, you are tied to Java and what Sun gives you, and what the VM writer gives you. FALSE! Java is an International Standard being guided by Sun but owned by the software development community as a whole. AFA the VM, precisely how many and of what quality do you think the VMs for Windows will be? That was another clutch for another straw if I ever saw one.It looks that was, but mostly it was to make Sun rich. Sun is probably not going to get rich as a direct result of Java and if they do it will be after IBM and Intel have already cashed in, big time. It's the thousands, nay, hundreds of thousands and soon to be millions of Java developers that will benefit the most. What impact? Very little. Microsoft office is far and away the most used office suit (sic) So eSuite will have no impact because Office is too popular, I see. The reason corporations will switch is the cost of obtaining, updating and extending eSuite will save them millions and if you want to here testimonials from some of the world's most powerful business leaders then visit the Lotus eSuite site and watch the videos. They did not pay these guys off, I assure you. It's clear you don't even grasp the problem so there's no particular reason to hope that you would see Java or eSuite as a solution. That's not unusual and fortunately companies like IBM and Sun are prepared to educate the ignorant masses on a) the problem and b) the solution.
