Haim, this is a very good question you ask. I spent a long while thinking about it on reading that, and recall going through such thinking before. I do not think I have made much progress with understanding. Horrific is a good word. The action stands out because one can imagine it, vividly, directly in the context of one's loved ones. Blood talks. I don't know if it's an issue of "permission of law" though it might be. I feel there is something more basic informing that individual who acts in that way. The consciousness acts based on something deep, and the rational, aware person is absent (I think) when this happens. If the person was present, this would not happen. I also do not know what happens in one's thinking (if there is any) when someone in a flying bathtub at 30K feet drops a bomb on an innocent person's head --- whether it is Hiroshima or some desert. This is more sanitary, far-off and we don't get to see blood. In both cases I think the humans are absent. Something else is at work.
