Government intervention is what created the model of employer provided health insurance in the first place and started the health care cost problems. They should never have done it, and a strong argument can be made that you cannot sort out the health care problems in the US without decoupling health care from employment. So, that's fine with me.

Unfortunately, in 1965 the federal government butted into health care even further, and it has been an absolute disaster for the country. A mere 50 years later this so-called "safety net" has collapsed, requiring massive subsidization to even stay afloat.

As to pre-existing conditions, there are ways of dealing with that issue without government taking over the health care system.
