We recently changed over to Kaiser and we are amazed at how much better out Kaiser is. Our old medical practice was slowly deteriorating- we got the sense that the doctor who owned it was stripping as much money out of it as he could, and not putting anything back in. It was like pulling teeth to get tests. And it was tough to get in when you wanted to. Kaiser has been amazing. First the computer scheduling is terrific. Secondly the offices are lovely, the people are super friendly, and he doctor wanted to test me- for things
I didn't even know about. And a vitamin D test was one of the first things she signed me up for. No charges for anything yet. I can't help but think that the fact that Kaiser is not for profit has a lot to do with Kaiser's excellence. All that money stays in the system.

<<<That's not true, and Obama should have challenged the statement.>>>

That is the problem wth the debate format. You can't go into any length to straigten out outrageous talking points. Roger Ailes and the right wing have been honing catchy propaganda talking points for years. Democrats have no chance if they try to compete using those techniques.

Democrats will have to grlnd it out on the ground - get voters to the polls. Democrats will need help with talking points but get them from people like Governor Granholm , Paul Krugman, and Bill Clinton.

Talking heads from MSNBC are mostly useless.

Government has different goals than private industry. Business is about optimizing certain things; growth, profit, market share, etc. Government was designed by the founding fathers with the goal of limiting power so that we could not have a monarchy or dictatorship. That makes government inherently less efficient. It is the price of freedom.

The right wing claims to worship at the alter of the constitution, but they don't even understand it.

"some things (highway systems) that wouldn't get done at all if not for the government."

Another thing is basic research. Research with knowledge as the goal, not profit. It often leads to profit, but that isn't obvious at the beginning, which is why private industry won't fund it.
