I grew up in Austin, was fairly poor as a young man, but a free entertainment was that I could sit in the spectator gallery of the state capitol and watch and listen to the legislators legislating. You have them pegged. I don't know if this is peculiar to Texas, but certain rural districts were represented by the sons of the wealthy from there, but it doesn't mean they were bright, intelligent or even sane.
