Probably like a lot of kids, growing up I always had this impression of its being the land of milk and honey.

It still is - and a lot of people who live here still think it is.

If you don't read the papers or listen to the news, if you have a decent job and live in a nice area - and a lot of people do - it's still quite nice. Beautiful weather year around, beautiful beaches, mountains and deserts. Great restaurants and resorts. Lots of entertainment venues, concert halls, arenas, museums, sports. Something different to do, no matter what your interest is, and plenty of opportunities to do it.

They complain that gas is over $5 a gallon but respond with, "It is what it is." when asked what they think about it.

Nobody pays attention to what's going on in Sacramento and how the politicians are screwing them. It they happen to be a victim of a crime, they bitch and moan about it for a week and then get back to whatever they were doing.

It's laid back here, dude. Surf's up most of the time. Beer's 50 cents at Happy Hour. Great tunes almost everywhere. Weed at your nearest store and really easy to get a script from a doc for it - just tell the doc you have ADD and you can get any variety of weed you want. You can even grow it legally.

Just don't pay attention to what's going on around you and you'll do just fine.
