Politically, I doubt if Romney can take this very far.

I don't agree, Bill.

If the media simply mention what is being brought out in this investigation, and then let it drop (which is what I suspect they will do, despite the fact that, had a republican been at the helm when this travesty happened, they would beat that drum until election day and beyond), then it is Mitt's responsibility to remind us how this man's incompetence and dubious allegiances put our duty-bound public servants (not to mention the country as a whole, by emboldening the terrorists) at risk, and how he lied to cover his negligence because being re-elected took precedence over the American public's need to know the truth about terrorism and his inability to confront it, let alone contain it.

Mitt cannot be worried about accusations of 'mean-spiritedness' or 'using a tragedy for political gain'. If the media will not inform the public about the depth of this man's incompetence and lies, then Mitt or his staff need to pick up the slack.

The State Department people did a great job of playing it off to Congress. They had the number of staff Kennedy, one of the people testifying, requested. Made it seem like no big deal...
