Although I've lived very large chunks of my life in the US, I am in fact Canadian, both by passport and temperament.

OT :-)

Well Canada is part of North America, so most everyone there is an American.

As to the United States of America:

I always figured we had 52 states.

Y'all got the first 50 - Yes, Texas included, believe it or not, even though they put mustard on their hamburgers and ketchup on their hot dogs, but all the rest of us forgive them because of their big hats and they're Texas and no one forgets the Alamo, especially when you rent a car and if we did diss them we would have to deal with Maryland anyway - and then you've got Canada, where they don't have a flag that looks like the USA's flag, probably because too many trees got in way with their sticky maple syrup, but they are definitely an "honorary" state even though they use money that looks funny and if someone gives you a dollar all you get is a coin but still they've got the hottest looking chicks even though their weather tends to be colder than in the god bless America long may the stripes wave! Oh and if they ain't a state well give the woman there, I hereby proclaim them a state.

Then you have Guam.

Guam is Guam is Guam.

Can you get any deeper than that ?

An American state fer shure.

Fifty two. Did I make my point?

Commonwealths are not states.
They fit the legal definition of states in the USA. The commonwealth designation that four states assign themselves here has no Constitutional impact.
