Cash does shareholders absolutely no good earning zero interest on their balance sheet. I understand the point of building fortress balance sheets over the past 4 years. It absolutely pisses me off to see companies like XOM with only 2.4% yields. I'm glad that Apple didn't waste more time this year starting a dividend. I'd like to see them finish off the year with a higher payout ratio. All that cash is never going to do Apple any good. They should start paying it out to shareholders, so they can afford more Apple products. It's probably time for a split this year too. Too much money is swirling around in options.

Fun things to think about as Apple heads lower. I'm getting slightly more comfortabe with the earnings models for next year, but it really doesn't leave much room for upside surprise. Apple is all grown up these days - what a shame!

Can you support this?
Tech companies are so stingy. Simple solution to raise dividend to keep stock price supported and reward stockholders. Management would rather have a fat bankroll generating little return.
Most of the $ is overseas where they would have to pay a 35% toll to Uncle Sam and in Apple's case, about 10% to Kalifornia's Jerry Brown... to bring the money back to the US to buy stock or pay a dividend....

So they use it to pay for capital investment overseas that they get back with lowered costs for products. All legal and all creates jobs overseas rather than in the US due to our silly idea we should tax corporations rather than people who make money working for or getting paid dividends by corporations.... insane. I've been making this argument since high school to the silly liberal teachers even as I was a registered democrat who supported Jerry Brown's run for the presidency.....
