<<Except Gore nor Kerry could get elected. Huge point. You can't get the job done if you are not elected.>>

Gore or Kerry could have gotten elected in 2008!

Not 2008 Gore and definitely not Kerry.

And is the race today any closer than the Gore, Kerry races were? And if Gore or Kerry were the incumbent I doubt it would be this close.

You live in a dream world. I like Gore but he has cartoonish image in this country now. As for bland, boring Kerry, Obama runs circles around him.

Gore lost a fixed election in Florida only (voter suppression) and he had to deal with Nader drawing away votes. Neither of which Obama has to deal with.

Kerry lost in Ohio only by a tad and he did not have the auto rescue to help him and had to fight gay bashing which is what did him in (and the Swift boating).

There is the logic you should be applying.

I believe the impact of Obama escapes you. In your mind, he wasn't an old hippy like Gore or Kerry so he's not a true liberal. But what's true is that Obama has double the charisma of either of these two men and can motivate the 'kids' in a way neither of these two could. I voted for Kerry and Gore but it was more a vote against Bush than a vote for Gore or Kerry. They had little vision and did not inspire like Obama does.
