I chose to use my real name here on SI when I originally signed up way back when, understanding the possible consequences of doing so. I'm a big boy. If someone else chooses to use my name to set up another account somewhere and post things that could ruin my name and I find out about it, I'll have no choice but to defend myself and make sure it doesn't continue. I do online banking and online trading, knowing the risk there's an outside chance my accounts could be hijacked. But that's getting a tad off topic now.

I have no idea how positing about a name used as an alias on a message board could be interpreted as a smear when I also write that he could just be an innocent bystander. Maybe it's just me.
