Hi Jim,

I recall making the statement concerning the trend towards a self-defeating outcome, but I'm not sure if it was in a public or private message. In any case, why do you suppose the rocket scientists on the street haven't concluded the same thing? Denial on a grand scale, call it group delusion, is the only plausible answer that comes to mind. Although, some probably feel they've got a corner on silver bullets, legitimate or otherwise, that will reap profits for them one way or the other.

To wit, concerning the 'denial of access" gambit you mentioned in the later part of your message, wherein some players are flooding the pipes, thus denying others enough room (bandwidth) for entry, that's one I hadn't heard before in an HFT context. It must be a great business for the bandwidth providers, but I'm not sure how sustainable it would be for the traders if multiple players followed suit.

Hey, there's bound to be a number of them that are both nearsighted and greedy enough to try purchasing fifty times more bandwidth than they actually need for a normal bolt of lightning to flash across the sky, I'd imagine. And the beat goes on.
