Well, it would be a stretch to say that was the only cause, but it was one of the things that traced the history of their collapse. Currency collapse doesn't auger the collapse of a country, but it does auger the collapse of the financial system within the country, which can be a powerful weakness that emboldens the enemies of a country to take advantage of the weakness. Think about an economically weak USA. Who would take advantage of that, if we didn't have the money to project power around the world? Hmmm..
