This spurs investment, as well as provides a better return on savings. This is classical economics. In the shorter run, it stops currency devaluation cold, which serves to put a floor under Americans' purchasing power, while allowing prices to start to generally decline based on market forces. That may mean a decline in housing prices to equilibrium, which makes them more affordable, which is the flip side of inflation. There will be a short term adjustment period as the malinvestment is wrung out of the economy, but then we'll be reset for long term, sustainable growth in the economy and in jobs. Tell me, if Obama launches a prosecution against Wall street, will people begin to get jobs? - Chinu mindmeld=> There's an indirect correlation here, but the real important impact of faithfully enforcing the laws in this country is that we keep the American Dream alive...that the US is a place where Justice is done almost always and that any man can work hard and succeed and have just as much chance of success as the next man, because there's a level playing field. Right now, we have class warfare, because the 1% are seen as aristocrats who use their money and power, quite successfully under Obama, to stack all the cards in their favor. We need to reverse that. Obama needs to send a signal to the Corzines and Goldman Sach's of the world that the they are not above the law and that, as Biden says about Al Qaeda, "we will chase them to the gates of Hell, if need be" to ensure that justice is done and that recompense is made to the common victims of the banksters crimes. That's how you restore Justice in this country. With that, comes the general framework for all the other things that makes this country great. But Justice is a foundation stone for everything. As Koan said, we need to be a country of laws where no man is above the law, not a country where the President decides which laws he'll enforce. Tell me, if we continue to provide tax breaks to the rich we will have more people working? (Remember we are being told this for almost the last 10 years)? -Chinu mindmeld=> I think we should tax the rich more. I'll go even further. I think we should means-test Social Security and Medicare. If you make above a certain amount per year, then you should get no benefits from those programs. I also think a more progressive tax structure that's not crazy like in France, but more like the Clinton years, will also create the feeling that the wealth is accessible to everyone and that we have a level playing field. That will lead to more jobs.
