The test of what's good is found in the maelstrom of reality which grinds exceeding fine, relentlessly and mercilessly, which is why we have the big lump above our eyebrows compared with the low brow of chimps and lower still brow of dogs and lower still one of sharks. There are times, of course, when evil wins in the short term when some malign murderer attacks somebody wonderful in pretty well any way we measure it. When for example Adolf rampaged across the landscape helping to invent Godwin's Law, ending in murdering en masse millions of Jews, any number of whom were vastly more good than him. Suppose he had won, paradoxically, he might have done good because even with winning, .... nahh.... it's going to be too hard to argue the case... briefly like your English ancestors beating your Amerindian antecedents was very good for you, the outcome of a Nazi win could have been great, with a bit of time passing by. I think my father had it right that beating Germany was the side of good vs evil but I'm not sure that I was in favour of my life being risked like that when Britain was in the process of booting NZ out of the relationship with the UK.
