I was watching an old X-files episode from 1993
I think, and they were talking about a computer
beating a chess champion. Here is part of the dialogue:

OTHER PERSON: "Do you remember Helsinki 2 years ago,
the first time a computer ever beat a grand master?
That was Wilcheck's program, and the rumor was he did it
by developing the first adaptive network."

MULDER "An adaptive Network?"

OTHER PERSON: "A learning machine. A computer that
