Why would Romney anchor his argument for electability to the 1.3% Q2 GDP growth rate?

The first Q3 report will be released about Oct 26 and it is likely to be about what the Federal Reserve said, 1.8%. Romney's rhythm was ..."and even less last quarter".

I think he'll be tripped up with his own words, and there was no reason to do it. If Q3 is under 1.0% or negative or anything less than 1.3%, he could have just let the numbers talk and "be" Presidential (aside from early voting considerations).

If the report is 1.8%, Obama will be set to close fast if the Nov 2 Jobs Report retains the 7.8% headline number.
