The way the scam works is they send a fake cashiers check for more than the sale price. They then ask you to send the overage. By the time your bank tells you the check was a fake, they have the money and the victim is stuck paying the bank back. There are scams where attorneys are contacted "to represent me in collection matter in your jurisdiction." Believe it or not, there have been lawyers who fell for the scam.

Scammers are everywhere. The worst ones are those who offer you free stuff, and all you have to pay is shipping. Just pay the shipper on delivery....

Oh, the shipper just called and said he needed to be paid up front. Just send me the dough and I'll take care of it.

My wife discovered one of these shopping for a horse. The jerk had posted the same horse picture on the website with different names. We got him booted off that website.

Scammers like this are worse than honest crooks who rob a 7-11 with a gun, in my opinion. Mainly because you can't shoot them in self-defense.
