There are reasons people do not have signs other than lack of support. We are living in a country where the stakes for those who are in power, those who write paychecks, are higher than ever.

I personally know a few neighbors who have told me that is their reason for not putting the signs up. Yes, last time Obama was also controversial, but the 4 years of histrionics and hate have been so unprecedented that people are scared. We won't know what they do in the ballot box, where privacy still exists, until November.

One of the reasons why there are fewer Obama-Biden signs and stickers is that people are afraid that some right wing lunatics will vandalize or damage the property. CA is blue state and I see very few political bumper stickers.

Romney makes outrageous statements that show he is not just a bully in foreign policy, and his words would rattle relations with other countries. I am sure he does not care as long as he is elected.

Were there more Obama signs in 2008?

From my recollection, yes many more.

From my narrow viewpoint, Florida is lost.

I concur with some of the others who have responded to your post. The guy next door put out an Obama sign in 2008 and his car promptly got egged that nite. Yup, in very blue Seattle. This year he doesn't have a sign out but trust me, he can't wait to vote for Obama. Republicans are very angry people and will do very destructive things........why risk your property and health to put out a sign. In FL, its got to be worse.

Having said that, its very close in FL..........and .it would not surprise me if FL goes for Romney. Of course it wouldn't surprise me if it goes for Obama again. Its why the state is colored purple.

Absentee balloting is usually the domain of the Rs...........the fact that outstanding requests are so close suggests that the race in FL is very competitive. Nonetheless, I would not be surprised if Romney wins FL.

Florida absentee-ballot voting could exceed 500,000 today (465K as of this morning)

Here's the daily update on absentee-ballot voting so far by party as of this morning. As noted in previous posts on the matter, Republicans are still holding an edge in requests and returns. Voting in the I-4 corridor is still heavy. But Miami-Dade County has pulled into second.

Here's the vote tally:

REP 207,578 45%
DEM 184,706 40%
IND 72,121 16%
TOT 464,405
Note: These numbers are from this morning, so by now the number of absentee ballots cast is sure to exceed 500,000.

Here are the outstanding requests:

REP74926041%
DEM72625540%
IND34655219%
TOT1822067
And the top 15 voting counties (last column =Republican-Democrat):

COUNTYTOT% of State...REP...DEM...R/D
PIN 55,886 12% 22,867 22,443 424

From my narrow viewpoint, Florida is lost.

Hard to say. Angry wingers are out there way more intense in your face. Most Obama supporters just live there lives.

Here is an example. I was at a bank yesterday in a smaller town within 1.5 hours of you (can't give the location away or MM might figure out it is in a swing state<g>) . Next to me comes a 50 something white guy with southern accent all the way in the trades looking to cash a check yells at the 70 ish year old female bank teller pissed off at her, the banks and government thus has no need for banks anymore when all she did was asked him if he'd like to open up a free account with direct deposit and automatic payment to make his life easier since he had just mentioned he didn't have one. Yeah that was part of her job... after he left I apologized to her for all the angry men in the world these days..i didn't have to go any further i could see it in her eyes..
