Actually, I was a lurker on SI for many months, and found some of the going discussions were relevant to my then employer / investments at the time . There was no way for my to post without the payment of the "Membership fee". I am not a person who throws $200 for a lifetime membership to get better search features. But, the economics of a annual membeship for $100 vs. $200 for lifetime was compelling. As the record shows. SI introduced "Trial Memberships" that allowed non-members to post with restrictions, which included tagging the post with "Trail Member". If posting was always free, then there would have been no need for a "Trial Membership". I spoke with some who were on SI before myself, like Maurice, who explained that posting was free when he first joined back in 1995. Which he claims his "Member Since date" is incorrect after a SI server snafu. Congratulations on your impeccable investment timing.. You are $200 richer than I on that issue.
