If you like a lot of people, it's nice to know what they are up to. Facebook is a very fast way to keep up to speed with many friends. That's the attraction. It's not as good as a daily phone call, but a quick like of a status communicates you are reading their posts, that you are interested in keeping in touch, and that you care. I have a lot of people who I would like to keep in touch with, and there is no other practical way for me to keep in touch with so many people. I personally love the daily baby picture updates I get from several of my former students and my colleagues and friends.
