I'm wondering if your place of residence has something to do with your pessimism
I'm sure that has something to do with it. Also contributing are my memories of the Bush-Clinton election, when I was amazed that most people couldn't see through Clinton's smiling-while-lying antics. We had a good president, and a sweet-talking challenger, and I believed until the last vote was counted that Bush Sr. was going to win. That left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

For the record, my FB friends are 5:1 in favor of Romney.

There are a lot of people out there who recognize Obama was a mistake and who re quietly waiting to as their vote to send him home. These quiet people aren't being picked up by the polls.
