Another reason the prices are dropping is just plain o'uncertainty regarding this sector. For example, what will be the effect of more Iraqi oil on the market, what will be the effect of the increase in OPEC quotas, how much will the Asian crisis reduce demand, what effect will the global warming conference have on demand??? The stock market hates any uncertainty. When these short term uncertainties get settled, these stocks will rebound because of the fundamentals. But until then, these stocks will not be fun. Michael PS- not willing/able to perfectly time when the above issues will sort out, I'm hanging in there with what I think are some great longer term stocks.
