We know quite a bit, i-node. Yes, there is a lot more information on these things than there was 60 years ago. But all of the pertinent information is tightly held state secrets. It isn't the sort of stuff that gets into textbooks, much less on the Internet. All of the pertinent information has to be gained by research. Now China was stupid enough to give Pakistan the information they needed to build fairly sophisticated bombs. They rather quickly realized the error of their ways and won't be making that same mistake again.

Ok, you say, the Paks might have given Iran the information without our intel people, who know precisely who knows what, where they are and who they talk to finding out about it.

Yeah. And I have a bridge I am willing to sell you, cheap.

The Manhattan Project had the top scientists in the world working on the project with essentially unlimited funds. And they turned out what might as well be termed a first generation gun type and a first generation implosion type. Now, look up the physical characteristics of those two weapons. Iran has no bombers, and none of its fighters can carry such things.

And it isn't a matter of just waiting for a test and hoping it would fail. To get a weapon that could be used, they would have to go through several successful test/incorporate knowledge cycles. And that would take years. Even with top people. Which they don't have.
