Ramsey,
Now my second time on the SI qcom board. Bill Freeza has been waging an unsuccessful PR battle against cdma for the last two years. He has a web site that has been dead of any real discussion for several months. Someone will paste the Freeza forum CDMA point-counterpoint address. It used to have some good discussion but lately it has been dead. I'm sure you will hear more of the same from others.

Ramsey, yep, while my little boy is getting cylcophosphamide dripped into his veins as I write, by nurses who wear protective clothing, I see the Russians have kidnapped a Qualcomm employee for spying using one of them newfangled GPS spy satellite machines which tell the USA where the buildings are in Rostov.

I'd make a geopolitical rant about deflation, competitive money printing by Japan, Korea and USA to stabilize their financial systems, but I'm not in the mood right now.

Bill Frezza tempts me. But with monoclonal antibodies in my dreams, angiogenesis inhibitors, necrosis factors, flow cytometry being much more familiar lingo than erlangs at wave functions, I can't raise a head of steam. GSM vs cdmaOne seems like fighting over whether aluminium or steel horseshoes give better performance with Draught rather than Arab horses. cdmaWon! Now it is just a matter of stacking up the money.

But I did take the trouble to read the list of Q-Phone versus Sony Z!
It didn't make happy reading for the Q-Phone. I sent an email asking about the talk time for the Z which was much better than the Q. Here is the reply:

"Checking the Qualcomm page, I see that Qualcomm Q
phone states up to 1 1/2 hours talk time with the
standard battery and up to 2 hours with the extended
battery. I've never seen an extended battery so I am
not sure about it's performance. The one thing I
didn't like about the Q's battery was the "short"
talk time. For a lithium ion battery, it should be
more. When I had the Q, I don't think I ever got 1
1/2 hours of talk time (because the phone was on
standby alot). I remember the battery was always
going dead so I routinely carried around 2 batteries
per day.

Not so with the Z. I've seen from a low of 2 hours
to a high of 2 1/2 hours talk time. So far, I'm okay
with the one battery I have. It does take a while to
fully charge up though. 5 hours + ? The Z battery is
a lithium ion battery that appears to be larger than
the Q's battery but still lighter. I use to own the
analog Sony and that battery performed like a champ!
I sometimes talked for 30 minutes after the beeper
warned of low battery power!

Don't expect any of these batteries to last as long
as the original Qualcomm phones. Today, though you
have GSM phones with standby times of 7-10 days and
talk times over 4 hours easily.

Thanks for your comments.

I really appreciate it.

Just on the India WLL prices. I think you got a zero in the wrong place Caxton! The prices the guy quoted were passably correct [though a fair bit on the high side]. The comments from the techies put it in its place, so I don't need to add more. Another "Nationalist" making a plea to rip off his countrymen. We have them here too and they are endemic in most countries. The Japanese insist on eating the world's most expensive rice so that they can withstand a siege! Talk about mad.....it's really just to get the rice grower vote. Same as the crazy yanks fermenting ethanol from crops then burning it in their cars instead of drinking it!

Heck, well over my quota. Have to go pick up a daughter.

Qualcomm almost back on all time high.
