"grinding to a near-halt" is un-factual wording to make a point. But it's not true.

That's anti-Obama wording. Pro-Romney groups would like to argue that the economy is in free-fall, and we need Romney and Ryan and Republicans in Congress (to impose austerity) to get the economy growing again.

And yet, they aren't doing well. Microsoft disappointed on earnings

They made $4.5 billion in net income for the quarter..........and you think that is bad? Did you go to the same business school that every other R seems to have gone to during the past 4 years? Seriously, $4.5 billion net income causes you to be repulsed?

Care to pretend that didn't happen either? What about Caterpillar's announcement? Care to put rose colored glasses on that? Do you even understand why a downbeat announcement from Caterpillar is important for understanding what lies directly ahead?

Let's keep to MSFT..........I don't have time to analyze every company that reports bad earnings this quarter just to maintain some kind of rapport with you.. However, its very typical of MSFT to have two average to good quarters, and then fail to meet expectations in the next quarter..........and that's all were talking about is failing to meet expectations. By any reasonable standard, this was not a bad quarter.

And the truth is that MSFT is a million ton behemoth that frequently misjudges the market. And they're doing it again. They are also failing to diversify and so remain totally dependent on the operating system that made Bill Gates a rich man to be their ongoing cash cow.

Their frequent misjudgment of their markets leads to earnings that disappoint analysts and apparently you.

Clearly, Microsoft is betting that PC sales will jump when Windows 8 is released, due to pent-up demand. But that's where Microsoft made its basic mistake with the design of Windows 8. Windows 8 offers very little for users of traditional computers over Windows 7, and is designed more for touchscreen devices than traditional computers. It's true that there are some new Windows 8 native apps, but those apps are as a rule underpowered and underwhelming. So Microsoft won't likely get the big jump in sales from Windows 8 that it needs.

Microsoft certainly needs to jump start tablet sales and sales of mobile devices. But forcing a mobile interface on traditional computers isn't the way to do that -- designing a mobile interface for mobile devices is the way to do it. My guess is that sales of Windows 8 computers will be somewhat depressed by the new interface. And that won't help Microsoft's struggles in mobile.
