Lotus Syncs Notes and Organizer with PalmPilot Organizer and IBM WorkPad 11:25 a.m. Dec 02, 1997 Eastern
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Lotus Development Corp. today announced the immediate availability of EasySync(TM) for Lotus Notes and EasySync(TM) for Lotus Organizer, software designed to enable bidirectional information synchronization between Lotus Notes and Lotus Organizer 97 GS, with the IBM WorkPad PC companion and the 3Com PalmPilot connected organizer. Now available from the Lotus web site, these conduits allow millions of Lotus Notes and Lotus Organizer users to manage their schedules, contacts and tasks in the office, at home and on the road using the PalmPilot connected organizer or IBM WorkPad PC companion.
"More and more people are turning to the mobility of handheld technology, like the PalmPilot(TM) and IBM WorkPad(TM) devices, to keep track of their schedules, contacts and tasks while out of the office," said Jim Burnham, director of marketing, Lotus Calendaring & Scheduling. "Now, the millions of Lotus Notes and Organizer users are empowered to not only communicate, collaborate and coordinate in the office, but also to have up-to-date information with them when they are away from their PCs."
EasySync for Lotus Notes and Organizer are extensions of functionality currently available for standalone users of Organizer 97 GS. When used as a standalone time and contact manager, Organizer 97 GS allows users to exchange calendar, contact, task and memo information with the PalmPilot and IBM WorkPad products. EasySync for Organizer will enable PalmPilot and IBM WorkPad data synchronization when Organizer 97 GS is integrated with the Lotus Notes client and the Domino server.
"Our customers have shown a great deal of interest in extending their information technology to mobile companion products," said Robert Amezcua, vice president, IBM Global Mobile Solutions. "Having the Lotus conduits available for the IBM WorkPad reinforces the tremendous value and productivity benefits our customers get from Lotus Notes and Organizer products and defines the IBM WorkPad as a key mobile component of our customers' information technology strategy."
EasySync for Lotus Notes will allow users of the world's leading groupware client solution to exchange Calendar, To-Do, Address Book and memo data with the PalmPilot and IBM Workpad devices. Additionally, Lotus expects to release a Notes e-mail synchronization update to EasySync as early as January 1998. The new Lotus conduits increase mobile support and access to up-to-date information, regardless of which product is accessed by the IBM Workpad or PalmPilot products.
"We have seen huge demand among our corporate customers for a link to Lotus Notes and Lotus Organizer," said Ed Colligan, vice president of marketing for the Palm Computing division of 3Com Corp. "With this link to PalmPilot now available, we expect to see an immediate spike in enterprise sales. Companies dedicated to Lotus Notes have been waiting for this solution to enable broad deployment of PalmPilot's throughout their workforce."
