I earlier said :

If you had invested in the market at or near its high (say on Jan 1, 1973), it would have taken you all of six years (until the end of 1978) just to break even. Now, how long did it take the Nifty Fifty to break even?

I still don't know the answer to this question. However, I later did find out that if you bought the Nifty Fifty at the peak, you would have trailed the market for... well, not too long -- just 16 years! :-)

When I brought this up with one of the fools, this is what he said :

"I can tell you if they bought companies at the valuations they did and were not committed to holding 20 years out, they were stupid."

There you go!

Actually, I would say that they were fools, and that some of their children are following in their footsteps right now! ;-)
