Maxwell,

Re: "If they can execute
well they will be profitable."

Obviously, AMD has not been "executing" for the past couple of years ... I
would have thought that you would have learned your lesson (with $'s)
by now. I guess that greed is a hard habit to overcome ... let me refresh
your memory:

"Yousef:

I am here to make money. I am pissed off because AMD can't get the job done. Prior to the
K6 AMD has no competitive advantage for Intel. The K5 was a lost cause. It was too big,
too slow, and too hot. AMD wasn't make any money by selling a K5 for less than $100.
AMD had never designed a microprocessor and they underestimated the task of designing a
CPU. AMD strength all along was manufacturing.

Buying Nexgen and buying IBM process technology elevated AMD to the level same as
Intel. Nexgen has a good design team and had already designed a successful X86 product.
With the K6 and a process technology given by IBM all AMD had to do is to manufacture
the chip, sell it, and make profit. It was as simple as that. IT IS A NO BRAINER! What
happened? THEY FAILED MISERABLY!

FAB25 ramp sucks. The marketing department sucks. Success was in their hands and they
screwed up. They should worry more about the bottom line than market share. Who care
about capturing 30% of the market share when you don't make any money. Furthermore
why the hell they don't get CA fab running production and make some money. If I
remebered correctly they used in to produce lots of 486 in 1993 and made alot of money.
Now they are just sitting idle, and sucking up money. I think Jerry Sanders need to keep a
close eyes on his company like Andy Grove. He needs to spend more time in FAB25 to see
why the job is not being done.

I don't mind you comparing the process technology of AMD versus Intel. It is a valid
argument. I already know the answer to your question but didn't bother to discuss. Intel has
lots of resources (people and money) and spent years researching process in enhancing
speed. This is what they do best. They have optimized their FETs so that they can tweek
their devices to highest performance. AMD is beginning to explore this area. Circuitry
design is a different area. I am unimpressed with the PII architecture (except for the
Merced). The K6 has a more sophisticated logic core. However from the feasibility of
manufacturing of the 2 chips the PII wins.

I sold most of my AMD position when AMD announced the IBM deal. I still have some left
that I would like to get rid of but was too late.
Q3 loss was totally unexpected. I will dump them AMD announces the K6 notebook and
Compaq as a customer to use. A good sector to rotate money in now is the communication
sector. They have been hit lately and will continue to grow at double digit for the next 5
years. INTC will have a not so good Q3 but Q4 and beyond they look good. The .25u will
make up for the loss margin for the price cut on their .35u products. All these stocks are
good stocks to buy for the long term but the returns never satisfy my taste. I like to see 2x
to 10X in returns in a year. I will visit AMD again when it is in the 20s.

Maxwell"

Hope this helps.

Make It So,
Yousef
