Oil production in the USA: aei-ideas.org Note the rapid increase. As with gold culture, a rapid price rise causes hordes to go hunting more and production to increase.

That green line you showed is remarkably horizontal. After 110 years of oil production, there is a surprising amount of oil still to be produced.

Imagine how much oil there is available if the methane is combined with bitumens.
