Well yes....GLOBEX gives a good indication as to the open. GLOBEX is highly influenced by Asian markets right now.

I am disturbed by this blurb I read in ZEN IN THE MARKETS - Confessions of a Samurai Trader" last night.

From Chapter Three,

"...It's the summer of 1982, and Mexico has announced that it can't make payments on the $100 billion that it owes. A default of that magnitude should have quaked the market in a big way. What really happened was the beginning of the greatest bull market in history...."

Stuff like that makes me wonder if I'm making a mistake thinking in macro-terms and perhaps I'm getting out of touch with the daily ebbs and flows.

I still think Asia will rock our markets shortly....but I no longer will trade in anticipation of it. I do my best trading as a hit and run scalper anyway, going to cash by the end of the day. Me and position trading over extended periods of time is not the most profitable stuff I do.
