You're correct. The biggie here is that it sets a precedence. It will come back to bite democrats - and the welfare of SS long term. ...........Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd, it has nothing to do with right or left - unless of course you think the left gets more from SS that the right does. SS is a benefit for all of us; right, left, and even for those that don't fit into the extremes!

Well, one could argue that Obama shouldn't have lowered the SS tax, he should have lowered the income tax by 2 percent. If the GOP wanted to make an issue of that, let them. It really isn't clear to me why he took the SS route.
