John, I think you make a couple of good points. I'd hope that Trimble has researchers organized along application lines as well as other engineers organized along product lines. This is a question we can ask their IR liaison. (By the way, I've seen several articles in the past couple of weeks emphasizing the shortage of technical talent in this general field, and a Trimble official's been quoted in two of those stories.)

It's also interesting to notice the Philips pilot emphasized backup systems (to get around jamming in military conflicts, for instance). How many thousands of military vehicles would be helped by a battlefield aftermarket navigation system?

Finally, Charlie Trimble was quoted in the Washington Post magazine yesterday as suggesting, probably in jest, that someday lawn mowers could take care of the mowing without a rider. He didn't suggest that ongoing agricultural applications could take care of the crabgrass.
