You may be right. He may have feared a Carter-like debacle. He may also simply have wanted Libya and OBL/AQ to be laps around the voting booths. He now has fresh blood on his hands and these are not the kind of men who can forget that. Being picked up or rescued is part of their way of life. They never thought for a minute that they or men like them might be abandoned and left to be killed.
