I guess the programmers working on theY2K problem have the best chance of comprehending the magnitude of this problem, although many of them "can't see the forest for the trees", i.e. when you ask a programmer how much is left to do, the answer is invariably:"Once I do this next step then I can tell you how much is left" and so on....you are being kept in suspense forever.... until Y2K hits you!

The governments (mainly laymen) hire and pay for consultants in order to get hopefully unbiased information and assessment about the problem. ( Probably the best info around).

Private persons like myself (layman) who can't afford paying for unbiased information are at the mercy of the internet info wackers and scepticism is rampant when you realize that the wackers are peddling books, newsletters, consulting services etc for monetary gain and painting pictures darker than the night of what's in front of us...

I think it is logical to think that the truth is somewhere inbetween these two info sources with a small chance that the Y2K problem is bigger than anyone ever thought and probably no chance that it will go without a hitch.

If it's real bad and governments retort to money printing....inflation should follow with a 9-month delay... and precious metals should fly...

Your two URLs imply deep chaos with the banks closed...if so, then barter systems should set in and precious metal coins would be more trustworthy than the dollar.

I would zero in on reliable statistics on programmers who have thrown in the towel and moved to the country side to pursue farming, fishing , hunting, trapping etc...compare that figure to those who still think they are winning the war...draw your conclusions and act accordingly!!!

THE REAL QUESTION: Where can we get those statistics?????
