Having to admit that Al Qaeda still exists in spite of his most heroic effort and success at killing its head, bin Laden, would mean having to admit defeat - or at the least - they weren't successful at all in stopping a terrorist attack.

Modern political jihadism didn't start with OBL and will not end with his death. I can understand occasional need for propaganda BS, but I hope that our political and military leaders are not buying into this silly thesis - because if they do, it will continue to cost us dearly.

Good points about Hamas and Hizbollah. Would not be surprising if they had a hand in the events.

Re: the coverup

Axelrod and Jarrett are advisors. It is the President's job NOT to follow unethical or potentially criminal advise.

True that, with direct video, there wasn't much fog of war, but there is certainly plenty of "fog of obfuscation". It is quite hard to figure out what happened, and for many people it's easier to believe in long "investigations" and other stuff pushed by the Administration and the "mainline" media.

RE: Why did Obama and "his" Administration try to explain it away as if this was merely part of the wave of protests against a lousy YouTube video?

For the same reason Clinton abandoned our forces in Somalia. Its a localized issue easily blamed on Military or State Department personnel, but if the President makes a decision and something goes wrong - all hell breaks loose. The extreme concern for collateral damage - what about the innocents etc. I truly believe Obama believes his own worldview and that a Specter gunship killing that force would look like Mubarak shooting protesters.

A million Mogadishu's. Only 1,999,998 to go....

You can trace the push towards both 9/11's to our reaction and withdrawal from Mogadishu.

When a strong President is in play - they will start to remember that 2 CIA officers held off a company and killed 60 before succumbing to overwhelming force.

In the first Mogadishu:

The battle resulted in approximately 20 deaths, 80 wounded, and 1 helicopter pilot captured amongst the raid party and rescue forces, including Pakistani and Malaysian troops. US sources estimate between 1,500 and 3,000 Somali casualties.

So a million Mogadishu's would result in 20 million allied deaths (18 million American), but wipe out the entirety of Islam. They think we will always withdraw.

Sadly in the clash of civilizations in which we live - this could devolve into world wide conflict and may actually happen. Orientalism, Multiculturalism and in general liberalisms will only seek to appease and this will embolden our enemies.

I am very afraid that sitting back and playing whack-a-mole with drones - will piss off the wrong people in Pakistan and some nuclear material will come into play. Worse - while we are 'sure' the Iranian Mulluah's do not yet have a bomb - they have money to buy one - and they have tons of material with which to make dirty bombs.

I think all of this is in play and will definitely happen in a 2nd term for Obama.

Romney - these folks are afraid of him - because he may have backbone. In any case he is not Obama and that is not in their interest.

Who is the best organization determined to defeat the U.S.?

Democrats, too often with assistance of nominal Republicans.
