They may be retired at a lower grade anyway, for not performing at the higher grade.

I believe military protocol requires them to remain silent until retired.
That does not mean their aides and assistants and others can't or won't talk off the record.

btw....i'm pretty sure they would earn millions for book deals and speaking engagements if they were to do this

what's more important here? a lousy pension or doing your patriotic duty?
