Novell: Turnaround Stock of '98 and Beyond.... Joe: Good, Bad or Ugly...You can line up hundreds of cases - positive and negative - on both sides of any fence. The important thing for me is that Schmidt, from what I am hearing from sources in the field is having a significant impact on breaking down the fence. The have's and the have'nots in Novell's world are moving toward the middle as an IP-centric networking world with exploding bandwidth soon - very quickly takes us all for a huge ride. Every blasted corporation knows they have to plug into an internet commerce technology strategy NOW - not in '99 or 2000. Novell has the goods to deliver on this huge emerging demand. Why can't people wake up and realize is NOT ABOUT NT!!! It's all about IP, stupid. The network platforms that open up and integrate with emerging Java-applications that feed into this will thrive. I happen to think Novell is right on track. Schmidt picked his shot and it will be one big home run. A Java-on-the-server application platform that's rich, secure and native IP compatible - and that's just for starters. The whiners on this thread crying about NT taking over the world are singing last years blues. It's like hanging out on South Michigan Avenue to where it becomes a habit. I love that music too, but lets come to grips with the massive paradigm shift toward networking technologies that underway. A completely different tune is being sung out there and none of notes are hitting this thread. And forget about the "Novell conspiracy." The Mormans are great businessmen. Novell has been terrible at marketing, but the new management is in and things are changing. As for Java, it's exploding and Gate's has one big tiger by the tail. He thought he could strong-arm and tame the internet to his liking, but he's already admitted partial defeat - look at the upcoming Java conference in WA this month (Sun not invited, give me a break!). I really think MS is in for a rude awakening. Despite all Gate's attempts at neutralizing it before it became serious, Java will open up and balkanize NT and eventually bring it back down to its knees where it rightfully belongs on God's good/bad code scale. Let's face it, all you guys have had a negativity shop running overtime on this thread. Too many were too early riding this horse. And many are getting off just as the ride is getting interesting. Don't get me started. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck!
