CNN is becoming a screwball network like FOX. Why on earth did they decide to compete with FOX of all networks?

I don't know.........from what I understand despite their poor ratings, they are still making good money. Its curious that they compromising their brand. What I know is that I don't watch them any more.

BTW here's another curious story about the media....where I live. Locally, the Seattle Times is the dominate and only major paper. As with most newspapers, its had a rough 4 years. I only get it on weekends......and only because I think the papers can still play an important role in our society. I have a techie friend who was hired by the paper a year go to try and turn things around. The owner has been selling downtown properties to raise money for operating expenses. During the past 6 months, the paper had seemed to stabilize.

However, there is a problem. The owner is a staunch conservative and frequently the editorial board doesn't reflect the more liberal community that is its audience. For example, they endorsed Obama but then turned around and endorsed McKenna, the R candidate for governor. It didn't come as a big surprise. They frequently do that......trying to influence local elections to be more conservative while going liberal on the national scene. And as per usual for the paper, there have written lots of articles favoring McKenna since their endorsement. The local Rs are working over time to get McKenna into the governor's office and lots of money is pouring in from out of state.

Then two weeks ago, the paper dropped a bombshell.......to prove that newspapers can influence elections they are taking ads out in their paper in support of McKenna. They also will be taking out ads to support the gay marriage referendum for marriage.........which many believe is a kind of absurd peace offering to its liberal audience. Of course, the cancellations have come fast and furious. One friend who called to cancel the paper was a greeted by an agent who was nearly in tears and asked if he would consider a 2 week hold to rethink canceling. Of course, he declined. I had been planning to cancel but hadn't got around to doing it.

Tonite, I got a call from a Seattle Times rep trying to get me to take the paper weekly instead of just on weekends. I told her I did not like the direction the paper was taking and in fact, was planning to cancel. Her response: I don't blame you.......here's the number to cancel. Wow....was I surprised. That's how bad things have gotten.......their own employees are turning on them.

Bottom line: I think CNN and the Seattle Times are examples of the tug of war going on between journalists and their corp masters. Inadvertently, Obama's presidency has shone considerable light on the split between the classes......and the rich are not liking it at all. Its why they hate him but are afraid to take him out and make a martyr of him. They are using every tactic ,including manipulating the media and spending millions, to stop the growing awareness of their disdain for the 47%. I think that's why we see CNN acting so strangely and the Seattle Times pulling a stunt that appears to fly in the face of its best interests.

I firmly believe and have been saying it for some time.............this country's democracy is in a great deal of danger. I don't know if we will survive this century as a democratic nation consisting of 50 states. I grow more convinced with each passing year that this country's break up is inevitable......or worse we become Panem in the Hunger Games. We can't keep coming up with charismatic presidents who can counter the powerful voice the right commands in this country. Its just not humanly possible and statistically likely. Sorry to sound so dour on what I hope is the eve of Obama's re election........but that's the way I am seeing things.

CNN these days is barely watchable. I have been waiting for someone else to notice that. It has been getting more and more ignorant for some time now. And now the pundits are not just ignorant, but they bring on lots of ignorant right winger guests. The first guess I had was they were shooting for the middle, but I noticed it continued its downward slide right into dumbville.

So now I am guessing whomever has the power is hiring their vision and their vision is just terrible.

I can barely watch it any more. Even Fareed Zakaria has too many mediocre thinkers. Your money is terribly stupid with that idiot Stephen Moore and that stupid rW kid; and Candy Crowly panders to the RW stupid.

MSNBC can fill this news gap, but they have to have more world news and less politics. they sure have the brains, but need to expand their subject matter to news.
