Yes, I noticed that as well. iOS makes them way more $ then OS X so they fired the guy who was pushing iOS and handed it to the guy from OS X. And this is wise??
The fact that iOS makes more money for the company than OS X does isn't really something that should be used to make personnel decisions, in my opinion. The question is which person is more likely to help move the software forward on both platforms. Tim Cook decided Federighi was that person. He knows both men better than I do.

I believe that argument to be reductio ad absurdum. That iOS is the larger piece of the profit pie has nothing to do with the cause of action, firing the specific executive.
