Look, you are the one who put "low" in quotes. The simple fact of the matter is average life span has been increasing over the past couple of centuries because those issues have been addressed, one by one. The top, not so much, but more and more people are living longer in better health.

When I was growing up, it was rare for a child to die from disease. But for my father, it was fairly common. Unless you are like 5, your grandfather grew up in a time where getting sick and dying happened pretty regularly.

My own father is 82 and still repairing watches. My ancestors on both sides tended to live along time, if they didn't die from accidents or disease.

As to how long someone should live, I don't have the slightest clue. My birth certificate doesn't have an expiration date.
