TWY, if I got 6kW worth of solar panels on my house, I estimate a good 10-15 years before I break even. That is, of course, not counting any subsidies or tax breaks.

On the other hand, 6kW is a LOT of square footage. About 600 ft2. I don't think all of that can fit on my roof.

makes sense......so how long before you break even......with and without subsidies.....I assume you have made some calculations. Please share.
There isn't much in the way of state subsidies where I live...if you can believe it, AL will give you a subsidy for a wood burning stove but nothing for a solar system...that's the conservative south for you...stupid to a fault.

The payback at current system cost should be in the 10 year range or less. One good thing we have here is the TVA which at current policies will give you a 15 year contract for dual metering and green power buy back at 2x their sell cost. I could install roughly 1/2 my average daily use on my roof and be power bill neutral...roughly.
