The laws are written specifically to allow this kind of activity to occur. Tip O'Neil applied this tactic against Reagan in the 1980s routinely.

It was an act of politics. If their behavior is undesirable, the electorate can replace them at election time. That is how this democracy works.

It feels like treason but those actions you described are protected by the United States Constitution. Buying chocolate formed guns complete with carrying cases and shipping them to each member of Congress might get their attention for a little while, but even that first amendment sign could be legislated illegal. I suspect that members of Congress are not losing sleep at night as the debt service grows. Obama wins the election and Congress continues to spend. China continues to purchase debt. And the U.S. balanced budget constitutional amendment proposals continue to go nowhere!
