Inhofe continues to push for regulatory transparency after Obama administration misses his deadline for releasing regulatory plans

Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Inhofe railed against the Obama administration Thursday for failing to release its regulatory agenda in time to meet his Oct. 31 deadline.

“President Obama is refusing to comply with the law that requires him to publish forthcoming regulations because he doesn’t want the American public to know the terrible cost of the regulatory barrage he plans to unleash in a second term,” Inhofe said in a statement.

The administration is required by the Regulatory Flexibility Act to announce twice every year all the major regulations the government is planning to enact — typically, the announcements come in April and October, according to the Oklahoma senator.

The administration has failed to offer its regulatory plans for more than a year.

Inhofe sent a letter to the president last week demanding the administration offer the plans by Halloween.

“So instead of being honest with the American people about what’s in store if he wins, he’s been trying to hide the fact that he intends to move forward with a slew of rules that will destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs and dramatically raise the cost of energy on American families,” Inhofe added.

Inhofe said he is specifically concerned with the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulatory plans, which he recently laid out in a report about the “numerous job-killing” regulations the administration has potentially set aside until after the election.

“The bottom line is that President Obama knows he can’t win reelection if Americans know the truth. It’s bad enough that he’s hiding his second term agenda – it’s even worse that he’s violating the law to do it,” Inhofe added in a statement. “The American people deserve more from their President.”
