There is no comparison. If you tried one out, I am certain you would agree. The surface keyboard is truly and genuinely a revolutionary input device. The way the Surface sucks the keyboard into a properly connected magnetic interlock that allows the cover to be both hinged and removable is something to behold as well.
It attaches magnetically in exactly the same way the iPad Smartcover attaches. The Smartcover that has been available for the iPad for two and a half years. What an amazing Microsoft innovation.

Yes, the Surface keyboard/cover combination is really cool. I like the look of the one with the real keys better, but both are pretty swell designs.

They really don't put the Surface ahead of the iPad, however, since the iPad has had a headstart, in the apps department, of two and a half years. People have been finding all kinds of ways to be productive with iPads for all that time.
