GOP wants Ohio voting machines fixed By: Darrel Rowland The Columbus Dispatch - November 01, 2012 7 dispatchpolitics.dispatch.com Citing reports that voters who wanted to cast a ballot for Mitt Romney had their vote switched to President Barack Obama by the voting machines, the Republican National Committee asked elections officials in Ohio and five other states to fix the devices. The RNC's chief legal counsel said the problems apparently include "miscalibration and hyper-sensitivity of the machines." The GOP cited a report by Fox News that cited several early voters in North Carolina who said last week they cast ballots for Romney but the electronic voting machine logged their pick as Obama. Similar problems popped up this week in Ohio, where voters said they selected Romney on the touch screen but an Obama vote was logged instead, Fox said. "You want to vote for who you want to vote for, and when you can't it's irritating," Ohio voter Joan Steven told the Marion Star, saying she had to try three times before she got the machine to correctly record her vote for Romney. The Marion newspaper said elections officials called the vendor for the machine and got it recalibrated.. Ohioans also have the option of casting an early in-person vote by paper. The RNC requested: 1. All voting machines be recalibrated before Election Day. 2. Additional technicians in the event of further issues. 3. Sign notification reminding voters to double-check the correctness of their ballot in the machine before final submission. 4. Verbal guidance to remind voters to make sure that the ballot they cast is correct.
